Center for Family Health & Education:
The Center for Family Health & Education (CFHE) provides quality, comprehensive health care in a friendly, culturally relevant environment for underserved, uninsured, and underinsured residents in the greater Panorama City area and the San Fernando Valley. Nonprofit CFHE is a Federally Qualified Health Center, a designation that allows the center to provide a broad array of services including Dental Health Care, Mental Health Care, Primary Health Care and Women’s & Children’s Health Care services, as well as education programs and transportation services.
CFHE needed a website that would raise awareness about them as well as highlight their services. Nearly 85% of the community is designated as medically underserved and over a third of the residents are medically uninsured. Their initial website was incomplete and not very informative, with little information about the clinics offerings. The community outreach program to inform locals who need healthcare regardless of their ability to pay was also not very prominent. More than 75% of the residents of the service area are Hispanic or Latino, so a Spanish-only version of the site was needed.
In order to better serve the community and provide quality medical care to their patients, the Center for Family Health & Education wanted their website to inform patients of all of their health care options. Visitors to the site could also sign up for a newsletter for any upcoming news and community events, like free health care services. Making the website mobile first would achieve this, since based on user research, most patients in the surrounding area don’t have computers at home, but almost all have a smartphone. A Spanish version of the website that mirrors the English version is also in the works.
Update, design, and develop the website related to the project. Also set up a ‘Sign Up For Updates’ page and accompanying email newsletter for patients who sign up, using MailChimp to accomplish this. I collaborated with the Head of Marketing & Communications and Chief Administrative Officer to complete this project.

I conducted research on similar medical clinics in the area with a focus on the Latino market. I came away with the belief that we have to ensure a great mobile experience and feature all services prominently on the home page along with the hours, contact information and phone number to make an appointment.
Next steps included creating a site map to ensure an ideal user experience. Any redundant or unnecessary pages were either combined or removed.
Once all new assets were gathered and we agreed on the updated layout, navigation and content, I updated the website with all of the unnecessary pages and content removed. The result was a much simpler version to navigate and also to make the website mobile first.
After conducting user research on both competing medical clinics and also the community CFHE serves, it was clear that the website needed to be simple and easy to use, with all services featured and easy to digest, specifically on a mobile device.
